The BAMS course at the basic education level lasts five and a half years. After completing the BAMS degree, the student is awarded the degree of “Ayurvedacharya”.
Theory The BAMS course is completed in four and a half years, while candidates must complete a one-year placement for practical training.
The degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery is divided into three professional theories, which are mentioned in the table below:-

3. | III Profession | 1.5 years | Ayurvedic as well as modern aspects of – general medicine, gynecology, and obstetrics, general surgery, pediatrics, ENT, ophthalmology, Panchakarma, Ayurvedic Classical Texts. |
4. | Compulsory Rotatory Internship | 1 year | 1-year internship in the clinical departments |
Applicants must meet certain requirements to be admitted to a BAMS course. Some of the BAMS eligibility criteria are given below.
• Candidates must have passed 12th standard or equivalent examination in Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) and English Language in 11th and 12th classes from an approved board.
• Must have completed 17 years at the time of admission
• General category candidate must have secured 50% in 12th class examination.
• Candidates must be qualified NEET by securing minimum cut off percentile to get admission in BAMS course.
Candidates who want to start their medical career can opt for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery after completing 12th standard. BAMS is an Aryuvedic traditional healing art in India. BAMS course provides complete knowledge of Ashtanga Ayurveda, scientific advances in modern medicine and comprehensive practical training.
The Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) is responsible for providing undergraduate and graduate students with access to Ayurvedic education and the practice of Ayurvedic medicine in India. Admission to undergraduate courses in medicine and surgery is based on the marks obtained in the NEET exam.
BAMS curriculum and syllabus is uniform across the country. Admission to undergraduate courses in Medicine and Surgery is possible only in Ayurvedic Colleges affiliated to respective Universities, Department of AYUSH, Union Government of India.
